New Blackberry Varieties Mean a Longer Picking Season at Linam Farm

If you’ve ever been to Linam Farm during blackberry season, you know how quickly the good ones disappear. One day the rows are full, and the next—poof—just a few stragglers hiding under the leaves. That’s why we’re so excited to announce: we’ve expanded our blackberry crop for 2025, and it’s not just more berries—it’s more weeks of berries.

We’ve added new late-season varieties that will keep fruit on the vines well into July, so even if you miss the early wave, you’ll still have plenty of time to come pick.

Why We Expanded the Blackberry Fields

Last year, our fields were picked clean by July 10. Families were still calling and stopping by, hoping to grab just a few more pints—but we simply didn’t have enough berries left to sell. That got us thinking… what if we could stretch the season?

So, we dug in (literally), and this spring, we’re proud to offer twice the number of blackberry plants—with early, mid, and late-season varieties that peak at different times, giving you a much bigger window to visit, pick, and enjoy.

What’s Growing at Linam Farm?

We’re sticking with our tried-and-true favorites, but we’ve also added a few standout newcomers. Here’s what you’ll find growing in our berry rows this year:

🫐 Natchez

Our earliest variety—Natchez blackberries are big, juicy, and sweet, and they’re typically the first to ripen, starting around early June. They make a bold first impression for opening week and are perfect for jams or eating straight from the vine.

🫐 Ouachita & Caddo

These two are your reliable mid-season producers. Firm, flavorful, and great for baking, they ripen in mid-to-late June, keeping the rows full and the pickers happy.

🫐 Osage (New for 2025!)

Osage brings a balanced flavor and a slightly smaller berry that’s perfect for snacking. It fits nicely in the mid-season mix, and you’ll find them alongside Ouachita and Caddo around late June.

🫐 Immaculate (Also New!)

This one’s a game changer. From the University of Arkansas’s Sweet-Ark™ breeding program, Immaculate is a very late-season variety that ripens in early to mid-July—right when other varieties are fading out. It’s sweet, seedless, and ideal for closing out the season with a bang.

How This Helps You Plan Your Visit

Whether you’re an early bird who likes to be first in the field or someone who prefers to skip the crowds, this staggered harvest means you’ve got more flexibility and more chances to visit the farm.

Here’s a rough timeline to help you plan:

  • Early June: Natchez ripens first
  • Mid-June to Early July: Ouachita, Caddo, and Osage peak
  • July 4th and beyond: Immaculate takes over

And of course, everything depends on the weather—but we’ll keep you updated weekly on [Facebook].

More Berries = More Memories

Chris put it best: “We’re really close to Northwest Arkansas, and with these new varieties, we’ll be open earlier—and longer—than a lot of other farms. That means more folks can make a day of it without worrying about missing their chance.”

Whether you’re picking with your kids, bringing home baskets for pie-making, or just stocking up for smoothies and jam, you’ll have more time, more options, and more berries to choose from.

Built for Growth (Literally)

Expanding the blackberry patch didn’t just mean planting more bushes. We also:

  • Extended our Rotating Cross-Arm Trellis system
  • Trained new canes to support this year’s growth
  • Spaced out rows to improve airflow and reduce pests
  • Adjusted irrigation lines to keep everything evenly watered

All of this means healthier plants, better yields, and more consistent fruit from early June to mid-July.
